FACTS ABOUT USON
Uson derived its name from the numerous mounds of earth caused by a certain crustacean in the local dialect called “uson-uson”.It  is  a coastal town 42 kilometers away southeast of the capital town of Masbate. It existed as a municipal corporate body during the Spanish regime, but like other incipient towns at that time where the economy was  shaky and the resources very lean, this town was merged to the Municipality of Dimasalang on November  1,1911 by virtue of Executive Order No.81,issued by the Governor General of the Philippines.

From the time of fusion until July 1949,when the place was under the administrative control of the Municipal Government of Dimasalang, the town became a barrio and the populace were deprived of all benefits and  privileges  bestowed on a town. Likewise, the people witnessed and experienced tremendous economic setbacks, low level of morality among the juveniles, poor living conditions and unhappy trends of events. It is this disgusting, deteriorating  economic  spheres that enjoined civic-spirited Usonanons, under the initiative of Santos G. Capellan to petition the proper authorities for the ultimate separation of this town from Dimasalang.

Then again, Uson regained its autonomy by virtue of Executive order No.244, dated July 19,1949 issued by President ElpedioQuirino and was inaugurated as an independent Municipality on August 19,1949. Having regained the status of an independent Municipality, development in all aspects of community-life commenced.
